After being blackflagged very early in the race for overtaking under yellow ( Pedro never saw the yellow flag because of the spray ) and being lectured by the Clerk of the Course Nick Syrett, he stormed out of the pits one lap do...

The 1968 Lotus 56 Turbine Indy car, driven here by Parnelli Jones, as seen at the 2011 Goodwood Festival Of Speed. Lotus founder Colin Chapman is best remembered for having a lot of success with unconventional and revolutionary racing cars. One of the most outrageous Lotus designs was the Type 56, prepared for the 1968 Indy 500. Although the novelties found on the 56 were not new, but the combi...

Pedro & Ricardo Rodriguez, driving a Ferrari 250TR entered by the North American Racing Team, fought the works Ferraris of Hill-Gendebien and Parkes-Mairesse for 22 hours. While leading at 7am (after 15 hours), it took the works mechanics over 20 minutes to replace a defective condenser and the brothers, now 5 laps down but with 9 hours to go, started the chase for the lead with lap times of 10...

I was there.
Pedro Rodriguez put on a masterclass on how to race in the rain. It’s mind blowing how he dominated this race against the best sports car racers of this era. I have raced in the rain once, and can attest how challenging it is.
What a shame that even back then they could not pronounce Porsche correctly.... It is a family name and a two syllable word. KTF.
Thank you, Luc, for keeping this memory of one of Pedro Rodriguez’s best drives available for the world to enjoy. Pedro’s wet weather driving skills were a marvel.
You're welcome !
When somebody mentions about a great wet drive, I never think of Donington '93. This race springs to my mind.
RICARDO Y PEDRO. 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽❤❤⭐⭐🥀🥀🕯🕯🙏🙏
Tragic when you realise that within three years Jo Siffert, Piers Courage and Pedro Rodriguez would be killed in racing accidents. It seemed in the seventies nearly every year a driver would die while racing.
This was the first motor race I ever attended and was immediately hooked. I recall trying to get a photo of the turbine Lotus from the bridge at the circuit entrance, because I liked the look of the heat haze behind it. Trouble was, I couldn't hear the darn thing coming from behind me and so missed every time!
0:50: - Monty Tyrrell - O man, can I remember him! Salt of the earth individual!
I have admired Pedro since I can remember. Then of Ricardo as I knew more of both of them. There will never be a pair like them again. Thank you for the video and the stories!!! By the way, Greta chive of music!!!
4:41 Moss spectating together with the great DSJ
Rodriguez had the skill, the character and the balls to be an F1 champion. Sadly Rodriguez lost his life doing what he loved most...racing cars. I would love to see Pedro competing against Max Vesrtappen, with all due respect to our beloved "Checo Perez". Of course, my fantasy. Greetings from Mexico.
Dr mister Ghys. Do you still owe your deerstalker hat with which you featured in Motorsport magazine?
Yes, I do !
Genial, gracias por compartirlo
Great young pilots among the mature Masters. At hour 22 they seré winning the race. The Ferrari was not good enough for their increíbl talent. ❤
Los grandes y jóvenes talentos, grandes en verdad👋💯✌️

El Mejor Piloto en Pista Mojada !!! Bendiciones desde México 🇲🇽 dondes quiera que estés: "Pedro Rodríguez" (QEPD)
Best formula 1 driver (and sports car driver) EVER. Together with his brother Ricardo, pedro are the best drivers in the history of the sport. They had the most NATURAL TALENT THAN ANY OTHER DRIVER IN HISTORY.
El ojos de gato 😺
'Ojos de gato' was the nickname of Ricardo Rodriguez. After the 1960 Le Mans 24H podium ceremony, winner Gendebien (with Paul Frère) said to Ricardo (finished 2nd with André Pilette) that he was a real champion, that his pure driving style during the night under the appalling conditions was extraordinary and that his eyes were as good as an extra pair of ‘Marchals’ (high beam headlights used on most cars in period). There lies the origin of Ricardo’s nickname ‘cat eyes’ (ojos de gato) as the logo of (SEV) Marchal is a cat with eyes wide open. The Rodriguez family took it with pride, especially coming from Gendebien and the French press took note and wrote about the 'cat eyes'.
RIP to both
Amazing coverage of all brave men! Just saying they do not drive in the wet in the US. That I suppose is why FI is the World Championship. 🤔
Scuderia red bull 🏎️🏳️🏁😎😎🇲🇽⛽🏆🏆
Don't want to watch it ,it's sad for what was a legend
Rodriguez was something else in the wet, so was Ickx.
Gulf 917.....awesome beast
How only could he do what he did on two and four wheels in such a short time. Magnificent. 🌹:)
Monsieur Mairesse (I suppose it is Willy) not giving a Centimes about probable structural damage to his delicate chariot ... like steering, front axle, hub or anything .. he proved to be the same all the way to the door incident with that beautiful yellow GT40 . totally absorbed by racing those chaps 😰
too short !!!! we want more and more !
Gone way too early. My idol Pedro the best under the rain and at night. A master at taming the Porsche 917. RIP champion 😢
Hay que apoyar al Sergio checo Pérez en fórmula uno en ayerbaillan
Ya lo admiraba con lo que supe ahora aún más gracias
The BBC coverage actually showed the one mistake when Rodriguez slid wide at the hairpin. IIRC that week's "Autosport" had a picture of Pedro talking to Raymond Mays or Sir Alfred Owen, I forget which, claiming that he is explaining his off to the boss. BTW, the commentary here is wrong. Rodriguez did not win another Grand Prix before his death. His two wins were Kyalami, 1967 and Spa 1970.
Pedro was talking to Raymond Mays, pictures was in Autosport magazine.
Thank You
Cute
Love u ss f
One of the last Heroes of Mexican Aristocracy What a great driver he was Hell of a guy Salute
I forgot to say that I was there with my mates and loved every soaking wet moment of it!
This was an era when racers raced! It didn’t matter too much about car or weather they just did it. Yes too many died and I wished that hadn’t happened but you weren’t going to stop them so just admire the sheer skill of people at the top of their game!
It's a shame that the camera man/editor missed Pedro doing a 360° spin out of Druids, selecting 1st gear and steaming off at unabated speed. Neither did the commentator mention that Rodriguez and Kinnunen won by 5 LAPS!
It was a +/- 140° spin as you can see in this video (3:25) : ruclips.net/video/6-sCrRSrlgE/видео.html
I was there with my Dad when I was 21 bless him. You could still walk around the Paddock for an extra £10 (I think) and chat with drivers and team members!
RIP Pedro Rodriguez. What a wonderfully talented driver he was, particularly in the wet - someone I knew witnessed his famous victory at Brands the previous year, and said it was the finest drive he ever saw. A great, if dangerous, era.
The 56 was tested in March 1968 at Indy by JIM CLARK - By far the greatest driver ever - no doubt. He is and was the Best of the Best. No other driver in history until today was so superior as Clark. This man is the Olymp of driving - the Michelangelo of racing - a dynamic art at the highest level. So smooth, so precise, so fast....simply out of this world. One, who won in Spa by 5 minutes (!) in monsoon rain...One, who takes back a complete lap (!) in Monza and back into the lead... One, who took pole on the original 22,8 km Nürburgring track by 9 (!) seconds and more....One who won Indy by 2 whole (!) laps...For eternity and by lightyears unmatched in the sport. That`s just four examples of his mesmeric unique genius...
THERE WAS ONLY A DRIVER IN MEXICO HIS NAME PEDRO RODRIGUEZ.
